Transplant Procedures

This is where the two key parts of the transplant takes place and this is when your system will be most vulnerable to attack.  Every transplant patient will spend at the very least three to four days in the hospital during this time and for many it will be considerably longer.  Some of you may be released a day or so after your transplant to recover at home, but many others will stay in the hospital for an additional one to three weeks.  I’ll cover the in-patient post-transplant issues here, which are separate from the out-patient post-transplant discussion in the next page.  There are no PAGs in this chapter, but there are several new worksheets to fill out.  Sometimes I'll provide a form, and other times I'll suggest simply keeping a list in a journal.  A journal by date is really the best way to enter all your data, and I tried to do this, but things can get hazy during this time, which is why I'm entering data after the fact now.  Do what works for you.

This chapter is broken down into five sections.
  1. The Countdown
  2. Check-In
  3. High Dosage Radiation/Chemotherapy
  4. Transplant
  5. In-Patient Post-Transplant Observation and Treatment
