Post-Transplant: Fluid Retention
Because
you will likely receive a lot of fluids while in the hospital, you may have
retained some or much of it upon your release.
It was very clear that this was a problem I had based on my weight going
up while my food intake was almost zero during my month in the hospital. Swelling of the hands and lower legs is also
a sign of this. If you’re experiencing
this problem your team will give you a prescription for a diuretic when you
leave the hospital. Within a few weeks
after being off an IV most of this excess fluid should be gone.
