Pre-Transplant: G-CSF

G-CSF stands for Granulocyte Colony-Stimulating Factor.  This medicine is administered by injection daily for about seven days.  It both promotes the growth of stem cells and helps to loosen them from their bone-marrow mooring.  The injection is given subcutaneously and is usually administered in the fatty area of your upper arm by a slow push (to minimize the burning sensation caused by the med.).

Sometimes the dosage may be high enough to require two injections.  These injections will be administered to your donor if you have one.
